UGLICH: THE STORY OF THE EXILE BELL

According to the local annals, the town of Uglich was founded in 937. On its coat-of-arms, there is a figure of Prince Dmitry, the youngest son of Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible. The tragic fate of the eight-year-old boy became became the town's most famous heartbreaking story.

One day, in 1591, Prince Dmitry was found dead in the palace, a knife in his chest. To gather people and let them know the tragic news, someone rang the town's bell. A furious crowd of citizens stormed into the palace and tore the alleged murderers to pieces.
