LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Dear Readers!

The "Little Red Dot" is one of Singapore's nicknames, referring to its size and appearance on the world map. But one doesn't have to be big to be efficient, says a centuries-old maxim, which may very well be Singapore's motto.

This autumn, the city-state plays hosts to some events of global significance: the Formula One race (25–27 September), which will flow seamlessly into the Russia-Singapore Business Forum (27–29 September), followed by the APEC CEO Summit that will see the participation of the world's most recently-appointed leaders, members of government, business community and citizens from across APEC's 21 member economies, including a Russian delegation. The first-ever visit to Singapore of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is also scheduled during this period, which will focus the attention of Singaporeans even more on Russia.

In this issue, we will tell you about a daring diplomat named Michael Tay who has unveiled Russia and spurred interest in this country among Singaporeans, and you will learn about no less daring women determined to change the world as members of Women APEC. Many will be surprised to know that Singapore's history dates back as far as 700 years ago. Those who have never ventured to Russia and are now considering paying it a visit are advised to start with its capital, Moscow. Prepare to be dazzled by the shiny sophistication of jewellery masterpieces by Karl Faberge.

We hope you will like the issue as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you.

Sincerely yours, Julia Sherstyuk
Editor-in-Chief
